Happy Halloween Survivor Fans! Last week we focused on immunity idols; a powerful relic in the game but they are not the only advantages found within Survivor.
Tonight I will outline a few important advantages that have been utilized in multiple seasons, but it’s important to note that production is always creating new ones to keep the contestants on their toes.
Vote Steal
The Vote Steal advantage allows a castaway to block another from voting and use that castaway’s ballot as their own; essentially voting twice. The castaway can choose to vote for the same person twice or vote for two different people. If the holder of this advantage wants to use it they must make their intention known before any of the votes are cast. This advantage is extremely powerful when it comes to forming a majority as you can essentially steal your opposition’s power of voting.

Idol Nullifier
The Idol Nullifier is a talisman that systematically eliminates the power of an idol. If a castaway chooses to use it, they must do so while casting their vote. At the voting booth, the holder must write the name of the intended target on the nullifier and place it in the voting urn, along with their vote. If a Hidden Immunity Idol is played on the intended target, Jeff will present the Idol Nullifier, informing the player that the idol has been rendered powerless. If the target does not play an idol, the advantage is essentially wasted and the user will remain anonymous if they choose.
Here is a video of the Idol Nullifier being played successfully:
Legacy Advantage
The Legacy Advantage is played similarly to a Hidden Immunity Idol however it can only be used at certain Tribal Councils; usually at the final 13 or the final 6. One unique element to the Legacy Advantage is if the holder is eliminated from the game before they can play it they must will it to another castaway still in the game.
One winner from the past that has capitalized on the legacy advantage is Sarah Lacina.
In Survivor: Game Changers Sierra held the Legacy Advantage and in an attempt to gain Sarah’s trust revealed the advantage to her. At this point, Sarah’s main alliance was targeting Sierra and the minority alliance was targeting Andrea. Although Sierra had good intentions Sarah manipulated her into thinking that they would work together. At Tribal Council, Sierra was voted out by Sarah and her alliance but Sarah acted surprised in order to convince Sierra that she hadn’t voted against her; Sarah’s ruse worked, and Sierra willed her the legacy advantage which eventually protected her at the final 6.
As I said at the beginning these are only 3 of the many advantages within the game. There has been much debate especially in recent seasons that Survivor focuses to heavily on advantages instead of the social game we all love. But that debate is for another time thank you so much for reading Surviving with Lucas and my question to you is what is your favourite advantage play in Survivor?

Lucas! Always lovin’ your posts dude! I am an oldie survivor purest so I’m actually not as into the advantages. I find they dilute the game a bit more than I like, but I understand it keeps the game more current. I wonder what it would be like for new school survivor watchers to watch the old seasons when advantages and idols weren’t a thing. Great stuff as always!
