The moment has arrived, after 10 weeks of consistent Survivor content my free inquiry project has come to an end with this last post. When it comes to reflecting on my overall inquiry a part of me wishes I would have chosen an inquiry closer related to my future career however I’m glad I chose something that I’m passionate about as I want to emphasize to my students to always pursue your passions.
I’m assuming your all wondering the answer to my question “What is the best way to win Survivor” and to that there are two answers; a short one and a long one. The short answer… there is no best way to win Survivor because if you look at all 40 winners no one winner played exactly like another. For the long answer I think it would be best if I recap all of my previous blogs and add new personal insight into each element.

Week 2: Basics about the Game: At it’s core Survivor is a social game; this blog discussed the basics of how Survivor is played. Throughout the years production has shifted the inner workings to make the reality show new and exciting for everyone. The main take-away from this blog was that no matter the twist or advantage players always need to remember what Survivor was founded on.
Week 3: Alliances: In this game trust is one of the hardest things to find. This blog not only detailed what an alliance is but more importantly how they can change the game. Yes, Survivor is an individual game but the truth is you need numbers behind you or you will be the next target.
Week 4: Immunity Challenges: Immunity is the one way to guarantee that you will not be going home and in Survivor that is HUGE. Whether it be tribal or individual, immunity is coveted and although it may make you a bigger threat sometimes winning immunity is a necessity.
Week 5: Immunity Idols: The power that immunity idols hold in survivor is beyond comprehension. These medallions allow players to negate votes cast against them at tribal council. Over the years there have been some stellar hidden immunity idol plays but what players have to be careful of is playing them when they need to and surviving after they are played.
Week 6: Advantages: Many advantages have been seen in the game and how each player uses them is to their own. Much debate as overcome the Survivor community on there being to many advantages which distracts audiences from the players and their stories. If played the right way they can save a person’s game while inducing mass harm to another’s.
Week 7: Jury Management: Even the best players are faulted by poor jury management. If you want the jury to vote in your favor you have to respect and treat them as human beings not as chess pieces. Many have said players have been ‘robbed’ because of a bitter jury, I personally do not see it that way as having good jury management is quintessential to being a good survivor player.
Week 8: Returning to the Game: Controversial yes, but players always have to be on the look-out for twists that allow eliminated players to return. There has only been one player in the history of Survivor to return and win but that doesn’t mean it will not happen again.
Week 9: Family Visit: To most people family is number 1; Imagine being stranded on an island sleep deprived, starving, and lonely when all of a sudden a familiar face from home shows up. The Family Visit is a sought after reward that leaves many in tears of joy but also leaves some in sadness and anger due to the fact that they do not get to go on the reward. This element is a major factor for whoever wins the challenge.
I leave you all with this one question “What do you think is the best way to win at Survivor?” Personally players need to have a combination of all of these elements to achieve an amazing winner status but in the past more of these elements have had greater weight than others. Thank you so much for tuning in every Sunday for Surviving with Lucas and I encourage you to find something you are passionate about and create innovate ways of sharing it. I am so glad I was able to participate in this inquiry project as it provided me with a new experience of showcasing a blog. Who knows what the future holds for myself and blog writing but I know for now Surviving with Lucas is complete!
