Welcome back Survivor Fans! For this second-to-last blog post I will explaining the dynamics of the family visit; arguably the most sought after reward challenge in Survivor and one that can immediately shift alliances and friendships. A quick note, this element of the game will not have a featured winner; but I feel it is still an important aspect of the game.

Prior to filming the season, contestants are asked to invite at least two loved one they would like to see in the reward challenge. Only one ends up flying out as the other is an alternate. Castaways typically compete in a Reward Challenge to earn the right to spend the day with their loved ones, though there are times where the loved ones either compete alongside or for their castaway counterparts.

Whenever this reward challenge takes place emotions are high as each and every castaway misses their family tremendously. The largest element of drama takes place with the winner of the challenge. The winner of the challenge ALWAYS has the option of bringing other castaways and their loved ones on the reward. The tricky thing is though is that there will always be castaways left behind without getting to spend the day with their loved ones. This puts an extreme decision on the winner’s shoulders especially if that winner let’s say is in an alliance of 4 and can only bring 2 other castaway’s on the reward.

Over the years, the loved ones reward challenge has been a make or break moment in player’s games. For those castaways who do not get chosen to go on the reward; extreme bitterness can arise which might lead to the winner of the reward challenge being targeted.

To get the tears-flowing below I have attached a video of some of the most emotional loved-one visits in the history of the show.

As I end this blog I have one question for you! Many fans of the show state that it’s a detriment to one’s game to win the loved one visit and that castaways should really throw the challenge. So I ask do you agree that winning this challenge can actually be a negative or would you be so overcome with adrenalin and emotion that you would be in a mindset of “I’m winning this challenge no matter what!”

Thank you so much for reading and I will see you next week for my final video answering the question “What is the best way to win Survivor?”
